- The early death of Juan Crisostomo Jacobo Antiono de Arriaga (1806-1826)
ended the promising career of a gifted performer and composer. Starting as a
child prodigy, he played the violin, appearing in cafes and noble salons in
his hometown Bilbao. He soon turned to composition and quickly won critical
acclaim and international recognition. After his death Arriaga was forgotten
for decades, but was rediscovered towards the end of the last century.
