RECORDING INFORMATION | |
Brendel's recent revisit with Sir Simon Rattle and the Wiener Philharmoniker of his previous recordings of the Beethoven Concerti has been hailed around the world as possibly the best ever recording of these works. With maestro Brendel's ever-increasing stature and artistry, it is safe to say that this new recording of the Mozart Concerti 20 and 24, performed here with the excellent Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Mozart conductor par excellence Sir Charles Mackerras is yet again proof that only Brendel himself can outdo Brendel. This recording is sure to meet with similar praise as his re-recording of the Beethoven concertos. Brendel's musical partnership with Mackerras is thrilling and inspiring.
The wonderful rapport between Alfred Brendel and Charles Mackerras and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra brings to life these much loved Piano Concertos by the world's most popular composer. Although they have collaborated many times in performance this is their first recording together.

PRESS QUOTES | |
"To the concertos Brendel brought all his characteristic strength of line, intelligence of detail and in the slow movement, some modest embellishments. They were performances of peerless integrity, backed up by Mackerras's keen, pungent accompaniments." The Herald - review of live performance in Edinburgh, August 1997
"Brendel was his inimitable self - no more and certainly no less - which meant a musical treat of the highest order...it was the life-affirming quality of Mozart, captured so marvellously in the defiantly carefree triple time ending of this concerto that Brendel and Mackerras chose to celebrate to the full."
"...Musicians like Brendel, the emperor amongst us, cannot but provoke a sense of the enormous, of a world of ideas and intellect..." |
