RECORDING INFORMATION | |
From 1769–79 Mozart wrote a number of orchestral scores titled 'serenade'. Mostly they were intended for performance
in Salzburg in the summer and in the open to mark a special social occasion such as the close of the university year in early August. An orchestra was put together and what was termed a Finalmusik was selected.
Included in this compilation is probably the most famous piece of all Classic Music: Mozart's 'Eine kleine Nachtmusik'. Also included are the slightly less popular 'Haffner' and 'Posthorn' Serenades. The recordings presented here are by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, founded and led by Sir Neville Marriner.
The Academy has a special bond with Mozart which started from the very first days they began playing together. |
